Description of General Responsibilities To provide Human Resources and Payroll Coordination for the School of Dentistry. These services are provided through VCU?s HR and Payroll Offices, as well as through consultation and coordination through the Department?s hiring managers, HR Specialist and HR Manager for the School. Hiring includes adjunct and affiliate part-time faculty, student and hourly workers, and graduate assistants. The HR Assistant manages the timekeeping and leave activities for VCU employees such as faculty, classified and hourly employees which includes 91 faculty, 99 classified and hourly, 235 adjunct and affiliate faculty. The school also has over 500 students and residents, some of which are paid employees during the academic year. This position will support the employee recruitment and payroll operations, parking requests for adjunct/affiliate faculty, and staff development initiatives. The position will maintain personnel and payroll records, update databases and manage the HR functions related to work-orders put through on Dentistry?s employees. This position will assist the HR Manager and HR Specialist with routine office duties and will provide front office coverage, and greeting employees and visitors to the HR Office.
Qualifications Bachelor?s degree preferred, or equivalent applicable experience and training in business, human resources, or accounting. Experience working in higher education, state government, in a medical and educational environment preferred. Experience working in human resources, recruiting and processing new hires highly desirable. Training and experience using Banner for HR hiring and personnel related functions, Banner for automated timekeeping/leave entry, SAS reports. Knowledge and experience using corporate purchasing cards and eVA, or like systems for procurement. Excellent customer service, interpersonal, organizational and time management skills required and excellent oral and written communication skills. Responsible, mature, self-starter with good judgment. Proficient with computer software, Microsoft Office programs, and email systems. Ability to prioritize work assignments and meet deadlines. Ability to maintain confidential information, exercise sound judgment, interprets policies, analyze data and make sensible recommendations and decisions. Ability to work well with people in a diverse academic/medical environment.
Pay Band 03
Department Hiring Range $35,000 ? $40,000
