Tweet This With a very changeable summer this year in the UK, pest control in London has been an even greater requirement for the Capital's residents, and cases of bed bugs in particular have been on the rise.

With the Queen's Jubilee and Olympics taking place this summer in London, hotels and guesthouses have reported a sharp rise in bed bug problems. This is because people travelling to the UK are unwittingly bringing this troublesome pest with them in their clothes and luggage and leaving them behind in their hotel ready to pass on to the next hotel resident.

But it's not just bed bugs that are a problem for people here in the UK. Flies, ants, pigeons, wasps, mice, spiders, moths, woodlice and cockroaches are also prevalent in homes and offices throughout London.

Cockroaches, rodents and pigeons in particular are of great concern to people in the Capital. They not only carry disease and bacteria that can be potentially harmful to humans, they also spread germs and bacteria around homes including kitchens where food is prepared. This can lead to e-coli food poisoning, which is a potentially life threatening condition.

Akeel Jaffar from HLA Pest Control in London says:

"We are seeing increasing numbers of bed bugs especially from hotel owners who are finding that they cannot keep on top of their infestation problems. Bed bugs are incredibly good at hiding in cracks, crevices and creases - especially behind light fittings and plug fixtures, making the problem difficult for non-professionals to tackle. After the Olympics in Sydney in 2000, there was a marked increase in cases of bed bugs this was due to the amount of people travelling to Australia and leaving bed bugs behind to breed at an alarming rate.

"For homes in London, mice are a huge problem as mice can fit through very small holes and with the damp wet weather they have been seeking shelter indoors. These pests can be dealt with by homeowners, but there is no guarantee that the pest will be completely eradicated and won't come back. We recommend that people call in the professionals to guarantee the permanent removal of pests and that pet and child-safe chemicals are used."

How to Use Expired Domain Names

This article has been viewed 17 times.

There are many solutions to earn money online, one interesting method is to acquire expired or dropped domain names which can be either successful domain names that did not continue their contracts or domains which have similar addresses for you to high profit sites. Whenever done judiciously, getting expired domain names can be quite profitable as well as well worth the investment value.

How domain name can certainly get expired?
Domain names are essentially the Website addresses used to house online sites. The number of domains will be virtually unlimited and plenty of companies offer living space on their servers for any low cost that will allow you are not internet access the right to purchase one of the available titles and start a website.
Nevertheless, every day there are plenty of expired domain names in which become available. Many from websites which either never got started or failed miserably, meaning that they are worthy of as much as purchasing one with the new domains. But on occasion there are successful sites which forget to pay his or her fees despite numerous warnings and lose their particular website back to the owners from the server who put it back up for sale. When this happens, purchasing a domain name can be extremely profitable as the first owners of the website may very well pay a hefty fee to get his or her website back rather than need to start over again.
Some ideas the way you use expired domains
Finding expired domain names is really a relatively simple process comprising finding lists of accessible names. However, being aware of which expired domains to obtain is another matter entirely. While the purchase price for almost all domains is pretty cheap, locating the expired one that you can either offer back to the previous operator or turn into a successful website yourself is another subject. That skill involves patience, a little good fortune and the confidence to recognise how you will use this domains once you have them.
For affiliate sites- if you were to develop a good quality site that will featured similar products or even products through the original that you are connected to, this can become a profit generating domain name. Used properly, expired domains can bring about any healthy profit and extended financial reward in case used carefully.
Taking advantage of productive websites that generate a great deal of traffic. For instance, let?s take a fictional internet site called ?widget.com? and you realize that there is an expired name ?widgets.com?. Equally names are very comparable and the expired domain you obtain is only one letter off of. Given the large amount of traffic for ?widget.com? it?s easier than you think to conclude that a component of that traffic will find your website by mistake. There are several options here, although building a cheap rip-off type website will probably get you nowhere fast.
Overall, purchasing domain names intended for re-sale purposes can be a reliable way to earn profit. Notably if you incorporate expired domains in to the mix if they had been formally successful internet websites or have very similar names to very profitable websites.

Journalist pans NBC after Twitter account suspended

A British journalist slammed the US television network NBC on Monday after his Twitter account was suspended following scathing attacks on the broadcaster's delayed Olympic coverage.

The Independent's Los Angeles correspondent Guy Adams said his account was suspended as a punishment for publishing the corporate email address of Gary Zenkel, an NBC executive in charge of Olympic coverage.

Adams on Friday tweeted his outrage over NBC's decision to delay broadcasting the opening ceremony in order to catch the primetime audience.

Speaking later on Los Angeles talk radio station KNX 1070, the journalist said he was "utterly outraged" by the coverage, and accused the broadcaster of "treating the people of America with contempt".

Adams also said Twitter had bowed to pressure from the broadcaster, claiming he had not contravened their rules.

"I'm of course happy to abide by Twitter's rules, now and forever," he said in an email to Twitter. "But I don't see how I broke them in this case: I didn't publish a private email address. Just a corporate one.

"[It's] quite worrying that NBC, whose parent company are an Olympic sponsor, are apparently trying (and, in this case, succeeding) in shutting down the Twitter accounts of journalists who are critical of their Olympic coverage," he added.

NBC Sports later released a statement saying: "We filed a complaint with Twitter because a user tweeted the personal information of one of our executives," the Independent said.

Swimming Safety Concerns ? Recreation and Sports

For lots of family units, there's not anything better than calming round the garden pool with family as well as pals. We all know the swimming pools provide a wonderful system to chill off on a burning high season as well as participate in 1 or 2 hale and hearty activities.

When they are delightful, there's heaps of info of swimming pool-associated deaths per annum. Despite this families endure to set up pools like a method to beat the warm. To get pleasure from your swimming pool to its fullest you have to guarantee everybody knows these swimming pool safety concerns.

You've got to pay particular attention to the pets that will stroll in as well as around the pool region. As with any pool, there ought to continually be someone around while folks are swimming. Actually the pal system is an excellent plan to put into service.

Kid death perils are larger with an in ground swimming pool compared against the above ground since they would trip simply as well as fall in. For this reason the area should be fenced as well as kids mustn't ever get left alone?

In addition, not running around the swimming pool area is a regulation that should be seriously forced and there ought to be no riding games close to the deck area. For above ground pools, railings as well as locking ladder are compulsory.

The ladder needs to be installed properly as well as checked frequently to be certain it's still firmly attached. Moreover, there ought to be no sitting on or walking round, the border of the swimming pool; hitting and falling off the ground can end up in damages as well as sitting on the sides might lead straight to the pool to fall down.

So what you are waiting for! You are quite able to go for swimming in monsey.

F1: Hungary Sunday quotes: Force India

Nico Hulkenberg - 11th: "A very difficult race, to be honest. I struggled a lot with the balance this afternoon and we just didn't have good enough pace. The rear tyre degradation was also high and it wasn't easy towards the end of the race. So with all things considered I think P11 was the maximum that was possible because we didn't make any mistakes and the two-stop strategy was definitely the right decision. We were not far away from the points, but we still need to go away and analyse what happened so that we can improve in time for the next race."

Paul di Resta - 12th: "I don't think P12 is a fair reflection of the speed we had in the car today. My race was compromised by a poor start and I lost a few positions going into turn one. I had the same issue in Germany last week so we need to understand how we can improve that going forward because it's hurting our track position. The first few laps were quite tough but the car came alive after lap four and brought me back into contention. Unfortunately it was impossible to maximise the speed of the car because there was no chance to overtake and once the pit stops were complete it was just a case of bringing the car home."

Dr Vijay Mallya, Team Principal & Managing Director: "We've shown flashes of speed this weekend, but ultimately we haven't been consistent enough to achieve our goal of finishing in the points. We didn't qualify well enough and that hurt us this afternoon because there was little chance to progress on a track where overtaking is so difficult. There was no room to improvise with the strategy and our two-stop approach was definitely the right call considering the cars that we were racing against. We will take the positives from the last few days and try to understand where we can find more performance so that we can come back stronger after the summer break."

Cooling, not population loss, led to fewer fires after 1500 in New World

ScienceDaily (July 29, 2012) ? In the years after Columbus' voyage, burning of New World forests and fields diminished significantly -- a phenomenon some have attributed to decimation of native populations by European diseases. But a new University of Utah-led study suggests global cooling resulted in fewer fires because both preceded Columbus in many regions worldwide.

"The drop in fire [after about A.D. 1500] has been linked previously to the population collapse. We're saying no, there is enough independent evidence that the drop in fire was caused by cooling climate," says the study's principal author, Mitchell Power, an assistant professor of geography at the University of Utah.

"The implication is that climate is a large-scale driver of fire. That's a key finding. Climate is driving fire on global and continental scales," says Power, who also is curator of the Garrett Herbarium at the Natural History Museum of Utah, which is part of the University of Utah.

The new study analyzed worldwide charcoal samples spanning 2,000 years. It will be published online during August in the journal The Holocene, which is the name of the geological epoch covering roughly the last 11,500 years of Earth's history. It was funded by the National Science Foundation and the Natural History Museum of Utah.

The study deals with the Little Ice Age, a period when Earth's climate cooled, causing New York Harbor to freeze over in 1780, among other effects. Estimates of when the Little Ice Age started range from the 1200s to the 1500s. It ended in the early 1800s. Possible causes include some combination of increased dust from volcanic eruptions, decreased solar activity, and changes in circulation of the ocean and atmosphere.

"The decrease in fire on a very large scale -- globally and in the Americas -- was controlled by this cooling climate, which began prior to the population collapse, and climate alone is sufficient to explain large scale changes in burning," says Power.

"In a cooler atmosphere, you tend to get reduced convection, so you get reduced thunderstorms and ignition from lightning," he says. "Cooler climate also tends to maintain high levels of fuel moisture and soil moisture."

Today, warming climate and drought have been tied to increasing fires in the U.S. West and elsewhere. "In a world where climate is rapidly changing we need to pay more attention to this relationship between climate and fire," Power says

Power conducted the study with 19 other scientists, including paleoecologist Frank Mayle at the University of Edinburgh, U.K., and climatologist Patrick Bartlein at the University of Oregon. Other coauthors -- who provided charcoal data or samples -- are from University of Wisconsin, Madison and Oshkosh; Northern Arizona University; University of Gottingen, Germany; Canadian Forest Service; University of Montpellier, France; University of Bern, Switzerland; University of Calgary, Canada; University of Tennessee; Virginia Tech; University of North Carolina; University of Chile; Laval University, Quebec; Fordham College, New York; and Central Washington University.

Cooling Climate or Population Collapse?

After Columbus reached the New World in 1492, explorers brought European diseases such as smallpox that "decimated populations in the Americas -- 10 million to 100 million dead, with most estimates in the 60 million range," Power says.

"All these people died abruptly -- Mayans, Incas, Aztecs and down in Patagonia -- they were all affected," he adds. "Agriculture was sharply reduced. Landscapes that had been cleared for agriculture started a process of plants growing back and infilling those abandoned fields. In terms of greenhouse gases, when you change from maintained cropland to woodlands, plants take up more carbon dioxide and there is less in the atmosphere. This has been pointed to as one mechanism for causing the Little Ice Age."

Power agrees population collapse may have led to reduced biomass burning in some local regions of the Americas. But the new study indicates the reduction in fire was actually global and began before Columbus in most areas, suggesting the Little Ice Age triggered most of the reduction in burning -- not the other way around, Power says.

"If you look at independent climate records, cooling from the Little Ice Age was happening about 200 years before the population collapse," or about A.D. 1300, he says.

Power notes there is room for debate because the Little Ice Age varied in time and space, and didn't affect all parts of the world equally, although most places cooled.

A Record of Fire Left in Charcoal

The study used existing records and-or new samples of charcoal -- burnt wood or other biomass -- found in sediment cores from lake bottoms and bogs from some 600 sites around the world, about half in the Americas, and dated within the past 2,000 years.

"Whatever was burning, we see a record of that fire in lake sediments, from either aerial transport or erosion" of burned material, Power says.

Power manages the Global Charcoal Database that compiles data from all the existing studies that date charcoal samples and describe where they came from. The new study included 498 existing charcoal records and 93 new samples.

"We have gone back in and calculated the ages of all these charcoal samples," except for some dated independently in other recent studies, and then used recent radiocarbon dating calibrations to make sure all data are consistent, Power says.

"Greater than 80 percent of biomass burning records show a decline post-1500 in the Americas, he says. The other 20 percent may be from areas that were still fire-prone despite cooling or that simply had burning declines for which there are inadequate charcoal samples, he adds.

The study compared the charcoal records with previously published ancient climate records and population reconstructions. It found:

  • Clumping all the charcoal data in two groups -- from the Americas or the Eastern Hemisphere -- shows that in the Americas, biomass burning declined between 1500 and 1650 and stayed at a minimum until 1700, the same time as the peak of the Little Ice Age. That period was the lowest level of burning in the past 6,000 years.
  • In the Eastern Hemisphere, there was a prominent decline in burning that began about 1400 -- well before the population collapse in the Americas. Power says cooling also started about a century earlier in the Eastern Hemisphere than in the Americas -- more evidence cooling caused reduced burning. There was no parallel population collapse large enough to explain the reduction in burning, although a small downward blip in burning is noted in Europe around the time of the bubonic plague or Black Death.
  • In tropical Middle America -- the Caribbean Basin, Mexico and Central America -- climate cooling starting around 1350, when burning also begins to decline. Population collapse didn't begin until around 1500.
  • In tropical South America, climate changed around 1350 to 1400. There is debate whether it warmed or cooled. The population collapsed after 1500. Power says neither climate nor population strongly influenced post-Columbian biomass burning in that region, which declined only subtly and not until 1700. It also is possible the population that collapsed didn't use fire very much in agriculture -- something a recent study coauthored by Power found in French Guiana.
  • In southern South America, ice-core and tree-ring growth studies show cooling began about 1450, well before an abrupt decline in burning in 1550. That would seem to support the theory that population collapse reduced burning -- except that the region had little population, certainly not enough for any decline to trigger a reduction in burning.
  • Ice cores from Greenland show cooling started about 1450, and fire started to decline about 1500, according to charcoal for boreal Canada and the western United States. Cooling and reduced burning stopped about 1800. Despite the 50-year lag, Power says that is more evidence tying climate cooling to reduced biomass burning, particularly since the region had relatively few people at the time.

Cell-sheet engineering can help repair damaged organs and tissue

LOS ANGELES (July 26, 2012) Yutaka Niihara, M.D., lead investigator at the Los Angeles Biomedical Research Institute at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center (LA BioMed), and his team Fawzia Bardag-Gorce, Ph.D. and Joan Oliva Vilana, Ph.D. - are working with Japanese technology company, CellSeed, Inc., to conduct research and examine how novel cellular therapies can help repair damaged organs, including the eyes, skin, teeth, heart, liver, and kidneys. The research is focused on providing innovative solutions for tissue-engineering through the development of novel cell harvest methods and 3-dimensional living tissue replacement products for "cell-sheet therapy" and regenerative medicine. LA BioMed recently completed the first of a two-year research agreement to study CellSeed's proprietary core technology in regenerative medicine.

"At LA BioMed, we are constantly working to uncover new treatments and therapies that can help patients who need them the most," said David I. Meyer, Ph.D., president and CEO of LA BioMed. "We are pleased to be collaborating with CellSeed, and look forward to further exploring the safety and efficacy of this novel cellular therapy and bringing regenerative medicine to patients worldwide."

Cell-sheet therapy is the process of taking small quantities of a patient's own stem or progenitor cells through biopsy and culturing them in a special cell culturing dish. When the cells have grown sufficiently to create a sheet of cells, the living cell-sheet is collected and transplanted back into the patient again. If the transplant is successful, the cells will differentiate to replace the damaged cells and restore the functions that have been lost. This process can be used to regenerate lost or functionally impaired tissues and organs such as eyes, teeth, skin, heart, liver, bladder, and kidneys.

"We are pleased with the progress we have made so far with this potentially revolutionary technology," said Dr. Niihara. "We have already achieved success in Europe to repair corneal tissues that have been damaged by disease, and are working diligently to conduct the studies necessary to meet the requirements that will enable us to bring this technology to America."

To date, this technology has only been tested in Europe and Japan but with rather dramatic results. Patients with blindness due to a lymbal stem cell deficiency have regained their vision, where there had been no previous treatments available to these patients, and there has been a high success rate for patients with end-stage heart failure who have made a full recovery without a heart transplant.

Dr. Niihara and his collaborators have also experienced success in preclinical work including animal studies in their lab. They are hoping to bring this technology to the United States in the very near future, and are working to broaden the range of commercial opportunities for regenerative medicine to include cardiac muscle patches for myocardial infarction, treatment of periodontal disease, cartilage regeneration, and esophageal cancer treatment, among other conditions.

There are several benefits of regenerative medicine. By using a patient's own tissue or cells, there is an on-demand tissue supply and low risk of tissue rejection. There is also no need to wait for a donor, and there are no histology match or foreign tissue rejection risks involved.

Skin game: Catch these types of skin cancer early ? The Weimer ...

Skin

?

Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer: More than 2 million Americans are diagnosed with it every year, and one in five of us will develop it in the course of our lifetimes. Fortunately, it?s also the easiest to treat and cure, if it?s identified early.
Regular visits to a dermatologist are vital to protecting your skin, but in between appointments, keep an eye out for these typical forms of skin cancer before they turn deadly:

? Basal cell carcinoma. The most frequently diagnosed skin cancer, this appears as a translucent bump that may be pearly, pink, or shiny. It?s associated with exposure to UV rays and, if untreated, can become disfiguring, but basal cell cancers rarely metastasize. They can be removed with minimally invasive surgery in a doctor?s office.

? Squamous cell carcinoma. These tend to look like sores: red, crusty, or scaly. They may bleed and are often painful. They?re usually found on sun-exposed areas of the skin. Squamous cell cancers are the second-most-common form of skin cancer and will grow if not treated. Again, different types of surgery can remove the cancer if performed early enough.

? Melanoma. Melanoma appears as an irregular mole that may be black, brown, skin-colored, or even pink or white. This is the most serious type of skin cancer, capable of spreading to other parts of the body with fatal results if not treated quickly. Because melanoma can resemble a mole, be the lookout for any lesion on your skin that seems different from the rest.

Many of us will enjoy the rays of the sun this summer, but remember to care for your skin by applying sunscreen, covering up, and avoiding the sun between 10 and 2.? Stay safe.

Single Cup Coffee Makers | E Publishing

People love coffee and buy tons of coffee makers each year. The problem with your average coffee maker is that it is usually designed to make ten to twelve cups of coffee per pot. This is fine for the office or maybe a diner but a casual coffee drinker doesn?t need all that. With an average coffee maker, if you only drink one or two cups a day, you are wasting between eight and ten cups. That?s a lot of coffee! Another thing is if you buy a big can of coffee, it will most likely get stale after a while. These are all good reasons you might want a single cup coffee maker.

Single cup coffee makers are perfect for single people and those that just want a better cup of coffee than a normal coffee pot will allow. A single cup coffee maker gives you a higher quality cup of coffee because it was designed for just that. One premium cup of coffee. Other coffee makers will brew more at a time but they are designed for speed not quality.

Single cup coffee makers are a bit more expensive than multi-cup coffee makers. This is because normally the only coffee you can use in them is sold in "pod" form. This is basically a self contained package that has coffee inside little flat oval shaped filters. If you browse your retail aisles, you should be able to tell easily what sells and what doesn?t. This is good to keep in mind so you don?t buy a new coffee maker only to have it obsolete and useless in just a few months. There are a few name brands such as Senseo and Mr. Coffee that you can?t go wrong with but you should definitely shop around and read some reviews and comparisons before making your purchase.

Each single cup coffee maker tends to be unique. Some will let you change the strength you desire or if you want four or eight ounces of coffee. Some will put foam or froth on top of each cup. There are many different options available to you.

There are many places you can purchase a single cup coffee maker. The most obvious choice is a retail store that has many different types lined up on a shelf. This lets you see what they look like, what they do, and what they offer. Appearance is important because if your entire kitchen has stainless steel appliances, a black plastic pot might not fit the theme of the kitchen. Price is always a factor because if something will do the exact same thing for $50.00 less, you might as well give it a shot and upgrade if necessary.

The only drawback to single cup coffee makers is that they only make one cup at a time. If you have many guests you will have to run back and forth, replace coffee pods, and make individual cups. The guests might appreciate the higher quality, so that is a choice you will have to make.

Take control of interviews by telling your story

NWjobs

We've had some good news on the job opportunity front over the last few weeks. The state's latest figures on jobless claims showed that employers added more than 10,000 new seasonally adjusted jobs last month. An earlier job outlook study provided by Simply Hired found that job openings in the Seattle/Tacoma metropolitan region increased by 6 percent from the previous month and 3 percent since July 2011. Last month, the search engine found, the Puget Sound region retained a relatively healthy 2:1 job-seeker-to-job-opening ratio; nearly three years ago, the ratio was 3:1.

These data suggest that local job seekers are finding an increasing number of job opportunities. But, as anyone who's had a difficult job interview can tell you, just having more opportunities is only half the battle. The next challenge is to make that crucial positive first impression when you meet the hiring manager.

You've surely already heard the interview basics by now: Eye contact, smile, firm handshake, dress for success, lean forward, etc. These are all important elements, but pretty much anyone can clear these hurdles. Interviewing is not only about responding to tough questions, it's a two-way street that requires just as much engagement from you. One of the best techniques to reach this equilibrium is perhaps the oldest skill known to mankind: the art of storytelling.

Have work-history anecdotes at the ready. It's not enough to merely list your responsibilities at your previous jobs. Interviewers want to hear you describe how you handled these responsibilities. Before your interview, think long and hard about each job you list on your resume and come up with two or three examples about how you exceeded expectations or helped each employer succeed.

When discussing your past deeds, this is no time to be vague or modest about promoting your accomplishments. Use declaratory language as much as possible: "Under my leadership, my department saved $XXX..." or "My sales increased by XX percent and consistently beat annual goals..." Hiring managers like to hear that you are a team player and can share credit when it is due, but a healthy display of self-confidence will stick in their minds even longer.

Talk about the company for which you're interviewing. Most job seekers know they should do their homework about their prospective employers, but most do little more than memorize a few bullet points from the website. To truly stand out from the other candidates, engage with your interviewer(s) about some of the latest developments at the company. Describe some recent changes within the company ? perhaps a new brand change, a recently launched product, a new corporate merger ? and ask them questions about how this may influence your job duties.

I can't tell you how many times I've interviewed people for editorial jobs only to discover that the applicant has only a cursory familiarity with the publication. When I ask them to give me their opinions of the periodical or name their favorite elements of the website, most of them either stammer through a few platitudes or quickly flip through the pages in a panicked search for an idea. These direct questions about your perception of the company should never come as a surprise. The interviewer wants your opinions, so be sure to develop a few. Which leads me to my next point...

Don't be afraid to criticize. Any company that's worth working for wants new employees to offer ideas for improvement. I'm not advocating rudeness or lengthy diatribes, but at least come to the table with a few ideas for changes. There's no better way to show that you really want the job than to provide a few suggestions about how your unique talents can make the company more profitable. Also, have a few questions ready for the interviewers about what they are looking for in the position. If possible, prepare an outline of the things you would do in your first week or first 30 days on the job.

All of this advice ties into one essential quality that all job applicants must have: enthusiasm. Often, job interviews are almost as uncomfortable for the hiring manager as they are for the interviewee, especially if the interviewer has to do most of the work. If you chime in with your own input ? telling compelling stories, asking pertinent questions and offering your own advice ? this helps put everyone at ease and makes the interview more conversational. Once this comfort level has been achieved, you can take more control over the course of the interview and, in turn, provide a clearer demonstration of your skills.

Randy Woods writes about job-search tools, networking techniques and other tips to help you land your dream job.

Matt Riddle wants Dan Hardy for his next bout, but Hardy is not interested

Matt Riddle made a statement both during and after his win over Chris Clements at UFC 149. During the fight, he showed he was ready for tougher competition by countering Clements' spinning backfist with an arm triangle choke that started standing and moved to the ground. At the post-fight press conference, he named that tougher competition: Dan Hardy.

It turns out Riddle had a bad experience when he fought at UFC 105 in Manchester, and he wants to take it out on Hardy.

"I will be completely honest," Riddle said. "When I fought in Manchester, England, (for UFC 105), they were very cruel to me. One fan actually spit directly in my face, and he was lucky enough where it hit my mouth. To be disrespected like that ... for some butter-toothed Brit to spit in my mouth, that was some bull. And honestly it's never been the same."

Though he also said he doesn't have anything against Brits, he does want to take out Hardy. Unfortunately, Hardy already has a fight scheduled with Amir Sadollah at UFC on Fuel 5 in September.

The other hindrance? Hardy doesn't want the bout.

Considering the run of injuries the UFC has experienced, a back-up fight is never a bad idea. Hardy won his last bout after a four-fight losing streak. Riddle won his last two fights. Should this fight happen? Speak up in the comments, on Facebook or Twitter.

Hoots in parliament: France mulls harassment law

(AP) ? French lawmakers are nearing passage of a law on sexual harassment, more than two months after the country's previous one was thrown out by a court ? and all pending cases along with it.

In the meantime, women in France have been without recourse ? something the government hopes will change soon.

The French Assembly, which takes up the law today, is the same place where last week a female member of the Cabinet faced hoots and catcalls, apparently for wearing a brightly colored dress in session.

Women's rights advocates say they fear the law could be a hard sell for those under pressure to keep their jobs in a difficult economy.

Crucial Communication Tips in Relationships | Best UK Dating Sites

It is almost a clich? now that communication is the key to a good relationship, but as with most clich?s it is also true. If you want a long-term successful relationship then your communication can always be improved upon. So in the interests of healthy relationships, here are some tips for good communication. Some of this may sound like psycho-babble but it can be really useful, especially when the situation feels like it is getting out of hand.

In order to make things fair, and so everyone feels like their voice is being heard, try to take it in turns to speak. If your partner is speaking then don?t interrupt them, rather be patient and let them finish before you respond. This way everyone gets a fair share. When you are speaking, try to change the way you word things away from ?you?. As in ?you did this? and ?you did that?, this will only direct blame at the other person and make them defensive, simply by changing the address from ?you? to ?I? you are drawing the attention and responsibility to yourself. In this way you are not focusing on the wrong doing of the other person but rather taking some responsibility yourself.

In this same vein, it can be extremely helpful to consider the factors that are informing your partner?s interpretation. Simply put, put yourself in their shoes ? by understanding your partner?s upbringing and how they see the world you will have a better insight into what is directing their response to you. It will also help you word your response in ways that they will understand and relate to. It is always best to be empathetic towards your partner, not just to show concern but to genuinely feel and be sensitive to what your partner is feeling.

In the midst of an argument it can be difficult to keep sight of the good aspects of the relationship. In the middle of one fight it can sometimes seem that it is all over, but this is not the case and thinking this way can make an argument escalate unnecessarily. In order to avoid this try to focus on the positives and try to use positive rather than negative language.

It helps no one if you are unclear in what you are saying. Use as clear and direct language as possible in order to avoid any confusion. It can be so very frustrating when your partner tries to assume what you are feeling, firstly your emotions are not that simple and secondly it?s not fair. So rather than assume try to mirror and paraphrase what your partner is saying, this way you get to understand how they feel without any assumption.

Above all, pay attention. Don?t try to do other things while you are talking, it will only distract you and make your partner feel overlooked, which neither of you want. Be attentive and pay attention to what is being said and then respond in a way that is constructive and productive, don?t leave things hanging, rather resolve what you can and try to implement any changes that are necessary. This will also help keep the conversation focused on the particulars of this argument, rather than branching off to other, less relevant issues.

Pfizer, Takeda advance new cancer drugs across the Atlantic ...

As many industry watchers expected, Pfizer's ($PFE) lung cancer drug Xalkori and Takeda Pharmaceuticals' lymphoma treatment Adcetris passed muster with European regulators and is en route to potential approvals. The companies were among several winners of positive recommendations from the EMA's Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP) on Friday, and their nods represent two cases where the FDA has beat its EU counterpart to the punch.

U.S. regulators gave speedy approvals to both Xalkori and Adcetris nearly a year ago, as the agency builds a track record of green-lighting meds that provide early evidence of efficacy for some of the sickest patients. Xalkori, or crizotinib, homes in on the ALK gene to treat a subset of patients with non-small cell lung cancer. And, as Reuters reported, analysts expect the drug to achieve blockbuster status within the next several years as Pfizer wracks up approvals for the treatment and expands its market. ?

From developer Seattle Genetics ($SGEN), Adcetris last year became the first drug approved for Hodgkin lymphoma since 1977 and the first med sanctioned for combating anaplastic large cell lymphoma. Takeda has rights to market the drug in Europe and the CHMP nod brightens the future of the Japanese drug giant's oncology business, which is built around its Millennium unit in Cambridge, MA, and features the big-seller Velcade.

Industrials could outshine broader market in second-quarter

NEW YORK (Reuters) - With the global economic picture worsening, earnings warnings piling up, and the dollar strengthening, the outlook for U.S. manufacturing companies might appear to be unremittingly grim. Not the case say some investors and securities analysts.

Shares of big U.S. manufacturers, which have lagged the broader U.S. market this year, could be set for a summer upswing if the earnings reports they issue over the next few weeks meet Wall Street's expectations. If that happens the sector will be a rare bright spot in an otherwise grim quarter.

Optimists note that pricing is running ahead of input costs, in some cases enough to offset the hit from a stronger dollar and softer European market. Also, fears of a European catastrophe have receded, and China's economy may have already bottomed. China data on Friday showed 7.6 percent growth in the second quarter, the slowest pace in three years, but economists noted broad stability in investment and industrial production.

Analysts expect industrial companies in the broad Standard & Poor's 500 index <.spx> to notch 9 percent earnings growth for the second quarter, helped by sales in the auto, aerospace and healthcare sectors, especially in the United States. Overall, the S&P 500 is expected to see a 2 percent profit decline.

And even if some major companies report disappointing results, some analysts and investors argue that share prices have fallen to levels that mean they can soak up some bad news.

That forecast is buoyed by the broad geographic exposure of big manufacturers including General Electric Co , Caterpillar Inc and Emerson Electric Co , that can often weather a downturn in one market - Europe, currently - by finding growth in Asia or the United States.

INFLECTION POINT?

Many multinational manufacturers are likely to lower their 2012 forecasts to account for weak European economies and slowing emerging markets, but drastic cuts are unlikely. Estimates have already come down for diversified conglomerates like Honeywell, United Tech and Danaher . But the overall picture, according to analysts, is one of a mid-cycle slowdown rather than the start of a more painful downturn.

"We don't believe Asia's crashing to a halt ... Europe is not growing much, but they're also not falling off a cliff. A lot of negativity has already been priced in," said Michael Cuggino, President of the Permanent Portfolio, which holds economically-sensitive stocks including FedEx Corp and Illinois Tool Works Inc .

3M said last month European and Chinese economies were stable and raw materials were trending in its favor. Since 3M makes relatively short-cycle products like office supplies, it felt the impact from those slowing economies earlier than peers. Sales are seen up in its healthcare, industrial and safety segments both year-over-year and sequentially, balancing continuing weakness in display and graphics.

3M probably won't cut its forecast and could even raise it, said analyst Nick Heymann of William Blair & Co, who adds that investor fears for the manufacturing stocks he covers may be overstated, setting up a potential "positive inflection point."

"Today, everybody's moaning about the economy in the industrial world and we're actually starting to see it get better," Heymann said.

An indication of possible positive bias among investors comes from companies whose fiscal quarters end in May, rather than June. Lighting maker Acuity Brands jumped last week after its earnings modestly beat forecasts.

TUG OF WAR

Two examples hint at the tug-of-war in investors' minds right now between pessimism and optimism. Truck engine maker Cummins Inc stunned investors on Tuesday by slashing its full-year revenue forecast. It blamed weakening U.S. demand for trucks and slower-than-expected growth in China, India and Brazil - markets that makers of heavy equipment have until recently described as healthy.

Cummins' stock was slammed. By contrast, when diversified manufacturer Dover Inc cut its profit forecast on Monday, its shares initially fell but finished flat, then rose in subsequent trading - a sign bad news may be priced in.

U.S. industrial shares, as measured by the Standard & Poor's capital goods industry index <.gspic>, are up just 1.7 percent this year, lagging the 6.7 percent rise of the S&P 500 index <.spx>. Their June-July recovery has been more muted. Parker Hannifin Inc , SPX Corp and Eaton Corp remain down 20 percent or more from their first-quarter highs.

Europe's debt crisis and China's slowing economy have spooked investors into buying defensive names, said Catherine Avery, president and CEO of CAIM LLC, who holds Eaton, ITW, United Technologies Corp , and Emerson Electric .

For example, Kimberly-Clark is near a record while Eaton is trading at a discount to its historical valuations.

"What we're going to be looking for this quarter is whether the U.S. is holding up for them," Avery said. "Can they maintain profit margins? Is there anything left on the cost side to help them make their numbers?"

Among the largest manufacturers, analysts on average expect earnings growth at Caterpillar in the second quarter up 52 percent; 11 percent higher at Emerson Electric; and a 9 percent increase at GE, the biggest U.S. conglomerate, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.

GE is expected to get a lift from pricing, aerospace demand and sales of energy infrastructure and services, especially to oil and gas customers.

Currency headwinds and tough markets will cause some companies to fall short of Wall Street forecasts, according to analysts at BernsteinResearch, who list Emerson, Rockwell Automation, Honeywell International and Ingersoll Rand as likely to miss expectations.

But if enough companies make their numbers or the cuts are mild, investors could start looking ahead to possible improvement in the next couple of quarters.

"A lot of these stocks are well into correction territory," said analyst Matt Collins of Edward Jones in St. Louis. "Most of the bad news has already hit and it's widely known."
